Chuck - RE: ""Gateway Athlon System Production Soon?-Chris 'ruiner' Tom 10:04 p.m. CST
That's the word I'm hearing from a contact from Gateway. The contact says they are to begin production on the 23rd of this month. If anyone can confirm/deny this, let me know."

From News.com article -

"The company will likely also begin to win over more customers. Although Gateway recently phased out AMD processors in its line, the company is likely to start using the high-end Athlon, said Robertson Stephens analyst Dan Niles in an interview. HP and others also seem to be working with AMD.

"IBM is getting production [for Athlon chips]. HP is getting production. Everyone except Gateway and Dell is getting production," he said"

The two comments parallel each other.

Imagine the article - "Gateway shuns AMD then asks for more" ;)

"So, if true, this would indicate serious problem with Intel's supply. How many points will this be worth on AMD stock?"

I'm not gonna speculate on the Intel supply part, but when the Gateway news came out, AMD's stock went down $2. I would like to get those $2 back. ;)

When GTW or DELL jump on the Athlon bandwaggan, the sychalogical impact to the Street will be immeasurable. It will make analysts to measure AMD in a "normal" way, e.g., price-to-sale or projected price-to-earnings. I can only say 5 points is very reasonable.

Chuck, re: < So, if true, this would indicate serious problem with Intel's supply. How many points will this be worth on AMD stock? >

Just a mere thought of it may have a couple of points effect on AMD. It could really wipe out the shorts that haven't covered their short positions yet. Some how, I have an inclination that most of the shorts position holders are Intel stock holders. If true, it could have a very short term negative effect on Intel stock because they may have to dispose some of their Intel position to fund the AMD short covering. Also some funds transfer into AMD stock is possible through the disposition of Intel stock. What do you think? This is just to know about the mechanics that could take place in this kind of runups and this is not to spread any FUD about Intel stock. The AMD positive outlook also may encourage more infrastructure partners to join the Athlon Bandwagon - no?
