<It could really wipe out the shorts that haven't covered their short positions yet. >

With AMD's reputation a lot of new shorts will take their place. I am sure there will be plenty of shorts on this stock for a long time to come. From now on, I expect to see a lot of gapped opens whenever the stock sees even mildly good news.

<The AMD positive outlook also may encourage more infrastructure partners to join the Athlon Bandwagon - no?>

Yes.

Goutama Re <<Some how, I have an inclination that most of the shorts position holders are Intel stock holders. If true, it could have a very short term negative effect on Intel stock because they may have to dispose some of their Intel position to fund the AMD short covering.>>

I don't think so. Intel has a market cap of about 65 times AMD. So even if 5% of AMD's shares are shorted by INTC share holder (I am sure the actual number is much less than this) that would be less than 1% of Intel's market cap and waaay less than a avarage daily volume for INTC. So it will have near zero effect.

On the other hand, if 0.25% (1 out of every 400) of INTC longs want to change their position into AMD, look out! :)
