Toronto has electric streetcars... I think they still do in sections of the city... I saw a few when I was there a couple of years ago. When I was a kid, we used to go and visit my dad's parents and there were LOTS of streetcars then. I was fascinated by all of the wire cabling above the streets and the streetcars with these big rods that stuck up in the air and swung back and forth to keep them in contact with the cables as they ran along the lines... I thought they were some kind of "horns" because the streetcars looked like giant horned caterpillars to me....

I can't say about the chains... I wouldn't actually be surprised if that would work though... I'll try to remember to ask my brother if he ever heard of someone doing that...

kinda' like walking fast through the megaplex cinema parking lot, leaning hard on the back of every car, setting off a cacaphony of alarms that only get shut off when the movie's over.
