Tough call, but I got out at $20. Bought in at $28 12/97.

It's not a matter of "losing" money; it's the opportunity cost. Too many other good places to invest.

CPQ has long term problems. The net has marginalized their value add sales model and the PC business is completely commoditized. The new leadership is trying to make sense of the DEC acquisition. They're squeezed by Sun/IBM on the value add side and GTW/Dell on the commodity side. The poor performance of the past 18 months - including the unforgivable sin of reporting 50% less earnings (the street will punish for this) - in an era of warp speed may be too much for CPQ to recover from for quite a while.

On the other hand, things can't get much worse so getting in now may be a good thing down the road. But you have to consider other places to put your money for the next 12-18 months

CNBC says Instinet has CPQ UP 1/4 to 22 11/16

That's UP 7/16 by my calculations ... there we go again with discrepancies about the actual closing price. I have it as 22 1/4.
