To me, much opportunity is missed by many who never play the short side.
I agree, though it is a trickier game. The plan is still the same just the order reversed. Sell on a buying panic, then buy on a selling panic.

The last few days I have been severely beaten up shorting excessively overhot stocks. I've been unable to cut losses because of the speed that the stock moves. The plan then is simply to wait until the frenzy is over.

The problem is that they *do* return to earth, but not fast enough for my trading account to not suffer margin problems forcing me to cover too early. Shorting these stocks requires either very good timing or a very well capitalized account.

Its a major heartache to see that you were right about the stock but had to pull out because of organization issues (I had the $, just not in the right account).
