Centura Software Working Together With SAP to Deliver Access to Mobile Enterprise Solutions, Anytime, Anywhere Business Wire - November 12, 1999 08:23 REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. and TOKYO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12,
1999--
Ubiquitous Computing Expands mySAP.com(TM) Solutions to handheld Devices and Information Appliances Centura(TM) Software Corporation (NASDAQ:CNTR), leader in e-business and Information Appliance databases and development solutions, announced today that it is working with SAP Labs Tokyo (NYSE:SAP) to enable mobile access for mySAP.com(TM), the SAP(TM) Internet business strategy, customer projects. mySAP.com provides an open collaborative business environment of personalized solutions on demand. The joint efforts with Centura extend the SAP software solutions offered within mySAP.com to handheld devices and Information Appliances, allowing them to intelligently interact.
The collaboration leverages Centura's award-winning Raima Database Manager(R) (RDM) on the Microsoft Windows CE operating system platform. This is yet another means for allowing customers of SAP solutions to access enterprise applications via handheld devices, anytime, anywhere. More than half of the Fortune 500 companies worldwide have deployed SAP solutions, exceeding more than 10 million licensed users in 19 industries. The joint project is being piloted at Wuerth Japan, a wholly owned subsidiary of Wuerth AG, a direct sales distributor of assembly and fastening technologies.
"Centura's extensive experience in developing and implementing solutions for Information Appliances and intelligent devices enabled us to rapidly produce next-generation applications for SAP customers," stated Thomas Shirk, executive vice president and chief operating officer of SAP Japan and head of SAP Labs Tokyo, which is part of the SAP global development network. "This project is a logical fit with our mySAP.com Internet business strategy and is accelerating the deployment of handheld, easily accessible enterprise information to millions of SAP users throughout the world."
"Within 4-5 years, over 80% of corporate users will have one or more companion computing devices, like PDA's, handhelds, smart phones, etc., in addition to a primary computer," according to Jack Gold, senior program director at META Group. "Each of these devices will be required to integrate into the corporate application infrastructure. While some will be thin client devices that connect via a web-based interface and then go away, many more will include a local application and a data store."
Accelerate the Deployment of Ubiquitous Computing With SAP
Together with SAP, Centura is helping customers rapidly deploy mobile enterprise solutions. A number of applications in the sales, service and manufacturing sectors are ideal for use in occasionally connected environments, including sales order-entry, customer master file maintenance, and inventory management. Wuerth Japan is scheduled to deploy the following areas in the initial stages of implementation:
-- Sales Order Entry -- Customer Master Maintenance -- On-Demand Goods Transfer -- Cash-In Receipts/AR -- Stock Status -- Inventory Update -- Inventory Availability
