Samsung Semiconductor will primarily focus on TFT-LCD displays, where the company has consolidated its position as market and technology leader. Samsung's leading-edge displays are noted for their large screen size, high resolution and wide viewing angle. Products featured include: 14.1-inch SXGA+, 15.0-inch XGA high brightness, 15.0-inch SXGA+ and 16.5-inch SXGA+ TFT-LCD panels for notebook use; 17-inch SXGA and 21.3-inch UXGA TFT-LCD monitors for engineering workstation and multimedia terminal use; and a 24-inch Wide UXGA TFT-LCD monitor ideal for financial institutions, engineering workstation and HDTV applications. Samsung will also highlight its technical innovation and commitment to R&D by demonstrating complete working systems with Samsung RDRAM(R), and PC-133 DRAMs and modules. Samsung is demonstrating its lead in the Rambus(R) revolution with a full display of Rambus components and modules, including two RDRAM-based working systems in the Rambus booth on the main convention floor. Samsung was the first semiconductor manufacturer to begin Rambus mass production, the first with 64-, 128- and 256M-byte RIMM samples validated by Intel, and the first with 72-, 128- and 144Mbit RDRAM components validated by Intel. A PC-133 SDRAM system will feature high-density 512MB and 1GB modules assembled using Samsung's state-of-the-art 256Mb components. Samsung Semiconductor's broad product range will also be exhibited in a display featuring MCU products, and a demonstration of customer Mobilink's GSM wireless single-chip baseband solution incorporating Samsung's embedded System-on-a-Chip technology. "I am pleased Samsung is here with such a strong technology and market leadership story," stated Y. W. Lee, president and CEO of Samsung Semiconductor Business. "We intend to maintain our leadership position in memory and TFT-LCD products in 1999 and into the new millennium," he continued. Samsung Semiconductor Samsung Semiconductor, Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Korean-based Samsung Electronics. Samsung's semiconductor division is the sixth-largest semiconductor manufacturer, and the leading producer of memory and TFT-LCD products in the world. Samsung was first to market with 64Mb, 128Mb and 256Mb high-density DRAM, and supports all leading technologies such as Rambus(R), DDR and PC-133/PC-100 SDRAM. Samsung was first with working silicon for the 1-Gigabit DRAM, delivering samples to major OEMs in 1998. Samsung was also the first to announce working merged DRAM and logic technology, and currently claims the largest applications portfolio of MDL-based products.
