Well here's a data point for you....SSB analyst speculating on a possible MOT or NOK takeover of Q's handset unit. This is just an excerpt...

While the financial synergies and/or arbitrage are attractive, we believe there is a strategic case as well. Qualcomm's existing mobile phone line-up as well as those still under development would be complementary to both Nokia and Motorola. Nokia would be able to jump start its CDMA position, which is at least a year behind schedule. In fact, we believe Nokia's goal for 1999 was to sell about 5 million units, however, it will be hard pressed to break one million. Motorola, on the other hand, would be able to solidify its CDMA position against the successful entry by some of the Asian manufacturers such as Samsung.

I dont know if I believe that Nokia will end up taking over the division....unfortunately I do believe the Nokia's sales numbers.

Tero,

You ask,>>Could you tell me more about the commercial 1XRTT systems next year?<<

No I can't. I was working from memory and I cannot find reference to deployment of 1XRTT in 2000. I may have been confusing it with IS95B deployment in Japan & Korea.

I understand that Nokia doesn't reveal their marketing strategy even to you. The question is, as a telecommunication analyst, will Nokia support 2.5G CDMA or wait for 3G. I know you can't speak for Nokia, but I'm interested in your opinion.
