eric j parde,Re: Doctors unionizing. We didn't talk about that but that is very bullish for gold/POG. Just another nail in the " no - inflation coffin ". The American Medical Association 2 - 3 months ago had a very rancorous annual meeting. Big battle between the old gizzards in the AMA Board of Directors and the new docs [ residents training in hospitals and young doctors hired by HMOs right out of Med school, ( Re: $120,000 in debt with zero cash flow, " we - will - work - for - food residents " ;) ]. Anyway old gizzards deeply indebted to Washington and the AARP wanted to nix any such attempt at unionization by the young Docs. The young Docs had a giant uprising and to make a long story short, forced the Board to accept unionization. The young Docs argued that they were employees and NOT " free standing professionals " and there fore they had the right to strike under old Union Rules. The young Docs won. The AMA board/ old gizzards voted to " support future efforts by Docs to unionize. To provide legal assistance and support for such afforts ". So that is definitely the way of the future. The import and training of foreign docs is now being limited because of Medicare cuts to training hospitals. It will not take very long for these HMO docs to start striking in HMOs and City Hospitals, for higher wages and then watch your Health care premiums move up another notch. Note that most of these Docs have not been groomed in the niceties of Parochial schools were " love thy neighbor was the word of the day ". These kids have been thoroughly schooled in Sartre's Existentialism, i.e. "live the day ", " look out for No 1" so they are not going to take any prisoners. Just MHO. How much will a 10% increase / year of Health Care costs add to the cost of living ?in addition to a 10% increase in oil( The Core PPI was up again 2 days ago a stronger 0.3% than the 0.1%, and oil and health care were not even factored in. ) I can just see this big N E W Health Care Freight Train ( loaded with Doc strikes, HMO lawsuits, New Anti HMO legislation, new HMO " laissez faire " policy for their Docs etc. etc.,) thundering down the tracks at supersonic speed, meeting head on with a 15 YEAR OLD Mack Truck coming from exactly the opposite direction called " Low Inflationary expectations Health-Care-Cost-Containment Washington-DC-Mack Truck ". Who's going to win the crash?:) TA . . . . .To: Richard Harmon who wrote (44923) From: eric j parde Friday, Nov 12 1999 9:48AM ET Reply #44926 of 44929 Richard,,,The latest trend in Union's grab for power is Doctors, while earlier this year the last union jewelry factory in California became non-union.
