Mac users have been in the past Maclovers, but they were rarely Apple-lovers. Wherever and whenever they were presented with a non-apple alternative they took it in droves as UMAX can attest. Hence the decision of Jobs to kill the clones.

The Mac Computer is user friendly, Apple Corp. is not.

I think Jobs saw this loyal base as solid no wonder what he did and is exploiting it in order to pump the stock price.

Should read:

I think Jobs saw this loyal base as solid no matter what he did, and is concentrating on the consumer side it in order to pump the stock price.

Doren:

Several things....

>What else coud it be?< iMac, Powerbooks, iBook, OSX, QT, G3's, G4's, Company investments, Cash position, leadership, design, style, and the balls to be different, just to name a few.

I am no Apple apologist, but I am able to separate my personal feelings, and emotions, from the factual occurrences of the marketplace and the workplace.

Two years ago Apple was at risk, factually, not just a perception. Today Apple is not at risk, factually, not perceptively.

Regarding professional usage... are you referring to market niches such as Graphic Design, Multimedia, Education, Small Business, Internet, or ?.

Your expressed concerns about what you call the slow erosion of a loyal base. Why would you care? If you're an investor take a profit and put your investment dollars elsewhere, and if you're a user of the products make a choice to use something else.

If the stock value came as a result of going overboard on the consumer thing I hope Jobs keeps going overboard.

Analysis of the actual is a learned skill.
