John - Re: 'I missed your sane insights into the technical problems at hand and how the Grove works was coping with same."

The "TECHNICAL" problems - as mentioned by Osha - largely seem to be addressed already by Intel.

The Camino/i820/Rambus launch is scheduled for Monday - Nov. 15 - so these problems are resolved - but production RAMPS are just beginning.

Coppermines are NOT rare anymore - check out Pricewatch.com

Intel's RAMP is in full swing and the volume will grow rapidly in the next few months.

Further, Intel has ben whacked up side the head with PC133 SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, etc., and they appear to be rushing headlong towards a Q1/Q2 2000 launch of an appropriate chip set to address these memory concerns.

The REAL SCARE would have been if Intel continued to stonewall the PC133/DDR SDRAM issue - they eventually got the message - and are moving to rectify that problem.

As for Merced - it may not become a VOLUME leader, but it appears to be an excellent product for transitioning hardware and software vendors into the 64 bit servers/workstations, OS and applications arena.

Look at today's ORACLE ANNOUNCEMENT !
