November 12, 1999, All Quiet in the Western Hemisphere Just finished a quick tour of G* web sites in North and South America Globalstar Home page--still names 41 countries "for initial service" in 1999 GUSA--nothing new; coverage map still inaccurate and generally useless, still links to suppliers that aren't ready to sell Airtouch (retailer)--no mention of how to buy G service, or even G* as a soon to be coming attraction GMPCS--nothing new O'Gara--ditto Airstar--Still says expected completion of it's web site by 12 Nov(well, it's not 13Nov, yet) Wireless Store--satphone web page "under construction" G* Canada--nothing new G* Mexico--ditto GAmericas--ditto Venezuela--ditto G Brazil--ditto TESAM Argentina--ditto TESAM Peru--doesn't seem to exist Obviously, no sense of urgency, at least as manifested on the web. Is it overconfidence, an indication the company doesn't think the web is the right medium for public information, or just incompetance? Meanwhile, no whispers from what should be over 10K beta testers? what a discrete bunch! Did anyone call GMPCS?? Well, one group should be really happy with the delay. Qualcomm s/h who would have had to part with 8 shares of the Q at Geneva Telecomm to buy a G* phone, now only have to pay 4 shares! How 'bout that! At the rate G* and the Q are going by the time G* phones are really for sale you'll be able to buy them for one share of Q.
