Rande, I really like your approach to adding additional lots to previous long positions. This is a great strategy. Gives you a lot of flexibility. You can hold or trade short term those additional shares w/o affecting your core position. And, if you decide not to sell, if it were to go down or maybe because you've decided to increase your long core holding, no big deal - either way is a winner - as long the company your are playing is sound and worthy of your investment - which it would be by definition if it is in your long portfolio in the first place.
