(And will pass an audit, should the gods visit one upon you)
Wash Sale Rule has nothing to do with it. It's the sale of a portion of your position and You get to say which portion it is. imho.

I was wrong about Wash Sale Rules
Wash Sale Rule extends in both directions, forward and back in time. Your 2nd purchase would invalidate the loss even tho it occurred prior to the sale of the 1st 500 shrs.

I thought I understood how this worked, but after posting I thought I'd better check and when I did I found I was wrong. Sort of like doing one's research after buying the stock. <G>
