Am I correct in assuming that dudes are commonly found in California? I wonder if, living in California, you take dudes for granted? Assume that they must be everywhere? Because I don't think they are. I've seen rednecks, yats, crackers, and the like, in the South, and I've seen bureaucrats and policy wonks and Yuppies in the D.C. metro area, but I don't cross paths with dudes, to the best of my knowledge. I admit I don't get out much . . . . possibly the closest thing would be artists, but they are actually more like Gaugie, sort of walking nerve endings. I knew a very cool photographer, who wore sunglasses after dark, but I wouldn't have called him a dude, as he wasn't really laid-back at all, he was very intense.
