I couldn't agree more with everything in your post. I might add that I believe much of organized crime and gang activities are financed by drug sales and prostitution . And of course all of the billions spent underground on these activities is not taxed! What we need in the way of education is realistic education. Tell a teen that weed will make him/her a killer, addict or the like and they will believe nothing you say from then on. Honesty in drug education works not scare tactics.

Victimless crimes and drugs.

Surely the result of our present attitudes (and the "actual" damage of nicotine and alcohol that we tolerate because we understand the human psyche) is enough reason to abandon the mis-guided drug policies of this country. Huge prison population and huge infrastructure of law enforcement is debilitating to the society and the government of the country.

Drugs should be controlled though, not "legalized" in the broadest sense. Sales, except through controlled channels should be illegal. Personal use laws should be allowed, in the same vein as alcohol and tobacco.
