Yeah, there needs to be an interface to the ERP purchasing modules. Thats why cmrc bought an auction company... well this one seems to provide sourcing of goods too which is not a b2c function but thats no big deal.

Thats what is so messy about this whole thing of purchasing. Right now ariba has something where if a user enters an order for supplies, Ariba will group all supply orders together and shop the web for the cheapest price. But thats supplies - totally manual. Auctions aren't really relevant because you could just break out one order and shop for that item on one day. Plus who wants auctions for supplies - nobody is asking for that.

But commerce acquired an auctioner and that PR indicates this is for goods sourcing. Thats different - thats when the ERP generates the purchasing schedule, not some user. So the ERP generates a schedule which is interfaced to commerce one. Probably it says for today's mfg schedule you need 200 widgets - and the default source is XYZ corp at $20. Then the user can override with the auction to get the best price. (I'm guessing this is their plan). Then an interface back into the ERP purchasing module and the financial module for accounting. And an interface into receiving too (probably - to track goods arrival). Its very messy, and a lot will be manual at first. But these interfaces are the real meat of the system.
