Welcome, jazzesq. If you read the head threader you'll get a little better understanding of the Gorilla Game approach to investing. It's a long term buy and hold strategy, and as such, short term fluctuations are ignored. Stop losses are not used by Gorilla hunters.

I hope you find some worthwhile information on our thread.

Hi, jazzy lady. That very question was asked on CNBC today, of a technical analyst. The answer was, "You guess!" (The rationale being that Q is in uncharted territory, and standard technical analysis doesn't work).

I think UF's point is that you don't want to take the risk of Q getting taken away from you on a temporary dip--and any dip will be temporary. That would leave options, I think, where you would set up a contract that would increase in value as Q's stock price falls, but in which you retain the right to continue holding the stock . Someone other than me will have to lay out an appropriate options strategy, though.

One other point, however, is tax consequences. With some options contracts, the IRS says you have an effective sale, I think. (Can someone confirm or contradict this, please?) If your Q is in a taxable account you need to investigate that. But, you're a lwayer. You should know all about that! :o)

Best,
JS
