Towards this, it is working on a reorganisation of the group companies - UBest-India, UBest-UK, UBest-Singapore and UCT-US - under a holding company to be formed in the US, according to Mr. James D. Latham, UCT's Executive Vice-President, Global Marketing. UCT was formed in 1994 to provide operational support service software to communications service providers worldwide. Mr. Latham told newspersons here UCT was in a state of transition to drive more business on a global basis. In the past seven months, it had done business in new areas in Africa, North and South America and Asia, he said. In addition to the UshaComm Learning Centre, a dedicated centre located here for training its executives, it proposes to set up an institute in Chennai, which will impart education in the high-end sector of software and telecommunications. Expected to take off in the first half of 2000, the institute, touted to be the first of its kind in the country, will offer short-term and long-term courses in the field. It could be similar to a finishing school, open to IT graduates, or middle level executives, according to UshaComm Learning Centre's Vice-President, Lt. Gen. A.K. Agarwal. The learning centre and institute assumed significance against the light of UCT's business expansion in India, for which it would require more human resources, he said. The dedicated learning centre has tied up with the IITs in Kharagpur, Chennai and Mumbai, the Indian Institute of Management, Calcutta and the Billing College of the US. The new institute, though it had not tied up with any other institute, would also work in tandem with foreign institutes, he said.
