MDR Love Affair?

paul:

I don't understand the love affair with MDR?

You must be referring to Slider? <vbg>

I'm not in love with anything. I just like catching falling knives. 50%+ loss in two days is WAAYYY overblown IMHO. I'll be surprised if I'm in this stock anywhere close to six months.

All the best,

Razor

There is no love affair with MDR. It is simply severely oversold. Market normally looks 6 months ahead, but sold off on the fact that a recovery in JRM is 1-2 quarters away.

Seems to me some ANALyst egos got bruised. They wanted MDR to use the cash in a different way that would have benefitted their holdings, like a stock buyback. There are only 59 Million shares outstanding, so that would have substantially driven up the stock price. But that would have hurt the asbestos litigation so MDR was smart not to do it. Instead they chose to shield the money from potential lawsuits, which discourages litigation because the lawyers can't get to the money anywhere near as easily (if at all). The money isn't "gone" as some suggest. They removed debt with it.

MDR management is thinking. Too bad the ANALysts aren't.

One other issue most folks are overlooking. The EPA is sueing 7 utility companies for pollution problems. 17 plants are involved so far, and the EPA has suggested the number is likely to grow. Based on what little I know of the action, I suspect the offenders will settle by installing very expensive exhaust gas scrubbers (among other things). MDR makes those scrubbers. This could easily be VERY big news when it hits.

I made a killing when I saw something like this happen to VTS last February. Might not happen here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it does. My only regret is not having waited another 24 hours to enter buy orders.

edit: Thomsons indicates about 20% of the volume today was retail. Impressive!!
