Here are two tidbits of trivia for the discussion:

1. I picked up the Value Line Investment Survey at my local library this week and low-and-behold-- Value Line has a feature called Timely Stocks in Timely Industries. The semiconductor industry was rated first based on some statistic which was not explained. And by virtue of alphabetical order, (I figured that out by myself) Analog Devices was listed first in the semiconductor industry. So all the Value Line subscribers and individual investors are seeing Analog Devices on the top of the heap -- the pick hit of the week. And probably next week too.

2. The last three stock splits have all occurred at year end. The board meets at the end of the fiscal year (on or about 10/31) to make the traditional year-end pronouncements. As we are all creatures of habit, it would not surprise me to hear about a stock split announcement in the next four weeks. As the three previous splits have all resulted in a stock price in the twenties (going way out on a limb here...) a two-for-one (oh no he said it, like jinxing a no-hitter!!!) has some historical significance.

And by the way, the business is going great guns. The folks in Wilmington MA designing communications chips have lots of work.

Regards,

Dave Chanoux

Gilder... (pun intended, but only as a joke!)

I appreciate your enthusiasm, particularly since I am long ADI. Please forgive my lack of knowledge. I got into ADI last spring because of an attractive chart pattern.

Now, I'd like to learn more. Can you tell me why "ADI has more potential than the others"? Communications infrastructure seems to be a very hot area. Does ADI participate in this field?
