QCOM makes the handsets, the gateways, crtitical parts of the satellites, consulting etc. The functional/technical success of GSTRF could make Qualcomm the leading contender for other satelite constellations like Teledesic etc

to understand GSTRF try recent scientific american mag on LEO - low earth orbit - sat comm - in a nutshell, G* is a LEO, bent-pipe sat system to provide wireless phone service to millions of mobile and fixed points on the planet - e.g., all the boats at sea, all the pleasure and fishing boats along all the coasts of the world, all sorts of rural and 3rd world sites that need a fixed place for a phone booth - the possibilities are endless -- travelers, oil platforms, emergency sites of earthquakes, natural disasters, ambulances, etc etc etc - G* runs on CDMA, enuf said
