t36 asked about GBLX.

I see this stock hyped and hyped by a lot of people. I don't own it, but I'm certainly well aware of it. Take a look at the price chart for the past year:

quote.yahoo.com

I compared it to Gemstar, Siebel and Qualcomm which certainly have all crossed the chasm as well as the pond. I'm not saying the charts reveal that much, just that three of the four stocks have qualities that put them in that 'special' primate game.

In terms of the Gorilla Game, what does GBLX have? Yes, they have a cable under the pond which certainly has high barriers to entry and will be important for the build out of Internet 2. As a 'utility' company for voice and data transfer, they will certainly receive a steady income for selling their toll fees. Then again, we can't rule out satellites giving them a run for their money as well. GBLX just announced yesterday they were going to sell 2 Billion in senior notes.

I see no proprietary technology, just the barrier to entry of laying the cable under the miles and miles of ocean. Probably more of a solid candidate for a basket of telecommunications stocks, this one fitting the bill as an international play. I assume there will even be consolidation within that industry going forward.

In light of everything said above, I would go as far as to make the distinction that the risk level for GBLX is probably higher than a Gorilla Gamer needs. That's my opinion though. I'm sure this stock has been discussed previously on this thread, my memory at 6 AM after last night's festivities is not serving me well.

Gblx--a king maybe, but they seem to attract debt like sugar attracts ants. And, maybe it's just me, but their PR machinery seems just a little too slick. Though I know folks who have made money from the stock and it will probably be a money-maker down the road, for me two strikes is enough. As Mike Buckley said, there are always others.
