Helen was so cool last night. Again. She has a toy - a cubical box with three holes to a face - eighteen shapes that will only fit into their holes. We had a grand time naming the shapes - then she'd look for the correct hole and stuff the shaped block into its hole. Sometimes she'd run out of patience turning the cube, and sometimes she'd not get the more asymmetric shapes (a long right triangle in particular) rotationally aligned. So she got a bit of coaching.
What was a stretch for me was thinking of the names for all those shapes.! There were easy ones -
square
circle
oval

intermediate ones -
rectangle
pentagon
five-pointed star
crescent

and real jawbreakers.
Eight-pointed fluted star
Six-pointed fluted star
Parallelogram
Trapezoid

Just no simpler way to name some of those!
With a little help she got them ALL into the box - then beamed.
