reseller and all...

my attention was turned to IM
recently based on a new product it will distribute...
but
after reading a number of [informative] posts here
and doing some basic DD, IM also struck me as a solid value play.

#reply-11912871

parenthetically,
could someone briefly explain how an initial manufacturer/distributor agreement works; does IM purchase for inventory X number of units, assuming the risk of buying and then reselling...paying the manufacturer, and then collecting from the vendors?

please excuse my fundamental ignorance in this area...
any and all insight would be most appreciated.

thanks in advance,

flick

BusinessWire

SANTA ANA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 1999--Aqcess Technologies, Inc. has just announced signing an agreement with Ingram Micro, the world's largest wholesale provider of technology and products, to market their new Qbe Personal Computing Tablet.

"We're excited about our newly formed relationship with Aqcess", said Tim Drexler, business unit director of Ingram Micro. "Our resellers are very pleased with this agreement and are looking forward to the product."

Featuring the true mobility of a hand-held device, with the speed and functionality of a desktop computer, the 14 inch x 10 inch x 1.5 inch Qbe combines Windows(R) 98 or Windows NT, TouchPen technology, handwriting and speech recognition, a CCD digital camera, multimedia features and Internet access all included in one, lightweight wireless device. It's also remarkably easy to use.

According to Jon-Erik Prichard, founder and president of Aqcess, "There's never been a product in the industry like the Qbe. Unlike laptops, the Qbe is a user-friendly computer that does not need a surface-to-surface to operate comfortably. Enhancing this feature is a 13.3 inch active matrix color display, with resolutions up to 1,024 x 768.

Scott Riddle of BLT, the manufacturer's representative for Aqcess Technologies, added, "The Qbe is going to revolutionize the computer industry, and I'm very pleased that Ingram Micro and Aqcess Technologies are teaming up in this great effort."

The Qbe's PCT will feature Intel processors ranging from 400MHz to 600MHz, hard drives from 4GB to 12GB, memory from 64MB to 512MB along with, an internal microphone, stereo speakers, and a magnetic card reader.

The standard Qbe package also includes the Porticle consisting of a compact keyboard and mouse, which is a portable easel stand and port replicator including additional serial, parallel, SVGA and PS/2 ports.
