KYA27,

It is a common sense that a packet does not translate into a
wavelenght. If it is true, you need to have billions
different lambadas available to represent each data packets
which does not make sense. The reason why LU want call it
optical router in my judgement is a response to NT optical
router claim. The fact both companies has weak router tech-
nology is forcing them to claim optical router which
mislead a lot investors.

I am still skeptical about Lucent and Global crossing claims
of NX6400. It is a very weak claim since the system is still
not ready until sometime next year after more than six
month testing in Frontiers.

The announcement says nothing about compatibility issue and
only deliver OC-192 interface without delivering OC-192C
interface. How the ISP to use it peering with existing
network dominated by Cisco router is still a mystery. LU has
been very good making announcements in last couple years. I
wait to see it delivers.

KYA27,

There has been some good discussions on this on both the Nortel and Collucio boards....

Take a look.. Optical routing is a layer 2 effort although there is some "tagging" of flows".. this isn't routing.
