Dan, I'm directly involved with Itanium chipsets, both the 460GX for Merced, and the future one for McKinley and beyond. That article that you just posted is wild speculation. Though I can't say much about the future chipset, I can tell you that 460GX has always been designed for SDRAM. There was never any plans to make 460GX support RDRAM nor was there any plans for DDR SDRAM support. Neither is necessary for the high memory bandwidth and capacity requirements of Itanium-based systems.

It just goes to show you that those "sources" that leak info to the press are not always correct. Perhaps these "sources" in particular are actually people working to spread FUD for the anti-Rambus coalition.
