"an analyst when asked about this stock on CNBC said not to buy it and referred to the awful debt load "

LOL, did anyone commend him for such an original observation? My suggestion is that everyone be aware of the debt and monitor the EBITDA and how much is going for the interest coverage and how much is going to fund operations. Use your brain and your own judgement -- not that of some CNBC idiot

Art,

I think the guy's got a helluva point -- and I'm long the stock!

But its like the Chinese word for "crisis" which I believe is also the Chinese word for "opportunity". This "awful debt load" provides the leverage for huge gains, just in case we are lucky enough to have a normal winter this year.

I understand the odds are against that though, and have lightened up the CHK position in recent weeks. May lighten up some more if this hype show they're doing on the internet this week brings in some buyers.

Wondering if you own CHK, or if not what other E&P stocks do you like these days? If you don't like debt you should take a look at Petroleum Development Corp. (PETD) -- a slow but sure grower with virtually no debt.
