I believe so. All OEMs do. You'll see Bill Gates touting about 2000 at the COMDEX.

Victor -
Let me be absolutely clear - the legacy free version of the iPaq WILL NOT RUN with either NT or Windows9X - they require the legacy hardware to boot. Windows 2000 is the first OS which will support such a platform.

However, CPQ, DELL, and most other big OEMs have been shipping the "release candidate" version of Windows 2000 for several months already, with a promise of free upgrade (CD or via the web) of the final product. They would certainly do that with the iPaq. The big corporate customers have great hand-holding from MSFT on issues like this through the Platinum support agreements.

Hambrecht & Quist Senior Analyst, Walter Winnitzki, to discuss MSFT, DELL, AAPL, CPQ

Dell starts 3:15 CPQ 10:18

Summary for CPQ
1. POTENTIALLY a turnaround story
2. Two issues.
a. Core pc business falling behind, needs more efficiency
and reduce costs. Some signs of change but no evidence.
b. Enterprise- Failure to take advantage of DEC. Made a comment
that CPQ is scheduled to make an announcement next year
regarding the enterprise arena.
3. iPAQ- Liked it but stated that being cheaper means compromise.
Due to being cheap, units will go up but revenue growth will lag.
4. Referred to MC as an outsider but it is too early to judge but
he was saying the right things. This is MC's first title of CEO
and therefore has no track record. Being new does not necessarily
mean bad and could be what CPQ needed.CPQ needs CFO to help determine quality of management. Much will depend on how large corporate customers embrace MC.
5. CPQ has done a good job of aligning its consumer pc to the
internet but one of the largest problems were CPQ's inability
to tie itself to the reengineering that is taking place in
corporate America around the internet
.
6. Wireless computers are nice but not a big enough space to really
bolster CPQ.
7. CPQ has the resources for the turnabout.

Rated Market Perform and waiting for a catalyst to spark an upgrade.
