I hope my concerns about a takeover by insiders are unfounded. Normally, you'd think that the officers and directors and large shareholders might have the same goal as the rest of us small shareholders, but when money is involved, people can get pretty tricky.

There may be no long term utility to getting National publicity as far as an ultimate appraised "fair market value" is concerned. The effect of the National publicity will be primarily on the political end. It could affect the time that the case will take to settle. It will galvanize the environmentalists who will oppose settling if it means paying any money to Coastal Petroleum for the "taking" of their lease rights. I've been thinking that the mention of big dollar numbers in the press could lead some people to consider a compromise solution like the one I have been suggesting. Or we might have a real debate on all of the energy tradeoffs that could be relavant here. Finally, some real consideration might be given to the idea of actually drilling for oil.

As I said before, political considerations are now going to become the major driving force behind the timing of any settlement. I hope Jeb Bush's strategists are thinking about the points that I mentioned that argue for a settlement sooner rather than later. I am planning to eventually mention my compromise deal to Jeb Bush so they have a viable alternative to the present all or nothing scenario that has forced the State to lie cheat and steal to avoid paying just compensation. <G>.
