Adam:
RE<<Intel's Rambus mobo may have memory bundled>>
I would have to say that one would really not want to go that way but some RMBS system boards must not work with some RDRAM out there. So each mobo is tested with RDRAM in it to ensure 100% working product. Maybe that is why VC820 has not been seen weeks after initial production. If bundling is occuring, either Kingston, Smart Modular Technology, Celestica or Soletron must be working very hard on this project.
Maybe this is why Joe Osha said Rambus rollout is in disarray. Having to spend tens of thousands of man hours to verify working memory in systems would would definitely qualify as disarray.

Adam and thread,

Re: VC 820 and rambus release.

I suspect folks are getting confused here.

On Monday the big oems will announce rambus PC's.

And I suspect folks will be able to order them with a 1-2 week lead-time.

I suspect the Vancouver boards with bundled RDRAM are for retail market. These may show up in December but probably not till January.

Only the big OEMS are getting the high speed Coppermines and it is likely only a couple of million systems will ship in Q4.

It'll probably be mid to late Q1 before Rambus and Vancouver boards are available off the shelf from your neighbourhood computer store.

In the meantime folks will have to buy from the big boys.

regards,

Kash
