rudedog: In #71872, I have posted a column by Seymour who believes that the iPaq will cut one year off the normal life-span of a commercial desktop: this is the other half of the ambiguity I asked you about earlier.

Assuming this is true, I can see that this might boost iPaq sales in 1Q, from orders taken in 4Q, thereby offsetting the normally slow-starting, back-ended loaded 1Q (remember 1Q 1999!) It should also allow the company to give earlier guidance on 1Q. If the removal of YK2 barriers also encourage 1Q sales - it could be a very good 1Q.

But all the costs of launching iPAQ and the manufacturing costs of early 1Q iPaq sales will fall in the 4Q with no offsetting income.
