It isn't about smart. We're all guessing . Me, I don't see any reason in the world for the Fed not to raise. We are looking at 5% GDP which would strongly suggest rates do not need to stay that low. Further, the dollar needs the raise to stem capital outflows back to recovering global economies whose markets are not at such a dangerous level. If the Fed passes on this go round, it's screwed well into Y2K if it needs to move. If I'm Greenie, I raise and go to a neutral bias as I can always lower if there are any Y2K problems that necessitate it.
