Jill,

I thought this thread was about gorillas in the eworld, thus ecommerce.

As time goes on, it's going to be more and more difficult to separate companies that are doing business in the eworld from those that are not. Siebel and Oracle are perfect examples of companies not known for e-commerce initiatives a year ago that are well known for them today. I haven't read the lead post for the thread in a long time (my fault) but my guess is that the modus operandi in the folder will have to evolve gradually.

IBM has been front and center in the e-commerce space for a long time but my impression is that IBM probably wouldn't be intended as the focus of a discussion here. Maybe I'm wrong, but I'm using it only as an example illustrating that there's a lot more grey area than black and white areas. :)

Jill,

It can get confusing I guess, but companies like Qualcomm and Gemstar are not in the ecommerce realm, and b2b, whereas ARBA is, for instance.

Gemstar will launch its two-way wireless system in 2001 which will leverage its guide platform for e-commerce or t-commerce as they have now termed the TV platform. It's licensing agreements call for a split in commerce transaction fees as well as for advertising.

Viewers will be enabled to make purchases of services and products by touching a single button on the remote. A second touch will be needed for transaction confirmation. No telephone, STBs or service subscription will be needed for the GuidePlus TV owners.
