gdichaz,

Aus and others on this thread know Sandisk inside and out . I am simply fascinated with the multi-level cell technologies and the potential implications for the storage industry in general and Sandisk more specific in terms of licensing fees. Just trying to get some discussion started on this topic.

Each cell contains two states, on/off yielding one unit of information. Sandisk's DD ( Double Density) technology has four recognizable states with two units of information. The IP recently acquired (from what I understand) was for the next generation or another doubling. It may not have been happenstance that Sandisk successfully engineered the same write-speed for DD as that of regular flash and acquired the additional IP so close in time. Such a move indicates to me that they might be ready to take this to another level.

The additional amount of cells you can fit into a defined space is limited and cost prohibitive. Cellular yield may be the next frontier. This is done by controlling the amount of electrical current and assigning definitive informational values.

As to the presentation on the G & K thread ... I thought it was Aus'some.

Stew
