Sig re: This has been the most predictable of any Dell earnings reports.

Amazing that Dell made a predictable quarter out of so many unexpected or large troubles (820 chipset surprise, Taiwan earthquake, continued LCD shortage, Y2K lockdowns, and what ever else I forgot). Chuzzlewit uses a stock's beta for risk, but I think that management's ability to make predictable financial performance in the face of large troubles to be more meaningful. How many stocks can make predictable (and therefore low risk) +40% growth? Hence Dell deserves a sizable premium.

re: Only one thing to say about that-its not going to happen that way (for one thing, brokers and MM's want their fees from volatility)

I suspect that a shift of investor money from stock purchase to options has also depressed the stock price of Dell, as a lower capital intensive investment has attracted many Dell stock buyers. The MM's really make out with these instruments. That is why they have been touting them on the boards. I am not much on conspiracy theories, but this is as good as any!

Cheers
Mike

Sig,
Hi!!
RE: Only one thing to say about that-its not going to happen that way
(for one thing, brokers and MM's want their fees from volatility)
Summary
Just agreeing with you, something big will come along
its in the wind. Lets hope its good(G)

That something big has been happening for years now...The direct model of DELL has been conquering everywhere it has landed...And surely if that "something big" comes along it will allow DELL to gain market share at a rate no one can predict..

Best, Kemble
