Other Taiwanese OEMs are expected to show information appliances at Comdex. However, a larger trend
among the group will be in mainstream PC products that, true to Taiwan's tradition, attempt to leverage
alternatives to Intel's processors and chip sets. Advanced Micro Devices Inc.'s latest K7 chip ? the Athlon
processor ? and new integrated chip sets from companies such as Via Technologies Inc. will play widely here.

Most Taiwanese motherboard makers, big and small, will have Athlon boards on display at Comdex. "Currently,
the K7 outperforms the best CPU that Intel Corp. can offer," said the R&D manager for a major Taiwanese
motherboard maker. "If AMD can get the price down and the volumes up, it will be a big hit." Motherboard
prices for Athlon-based boards will come down soon. "We are now able to go from a six-layer to a four-layer
K7 mainboard," said a project manager at First International Computer Inc. Via Technologies also now has a
core logic chip set that will support the K7, their KX133."

For Immediate Release

Friday, November 12, 1999

Editorial Summary
AMI releases the Megathon,™ an AMD Athlon™ high-performance server motherboard.
The Megathon is the ideal solution for customers who demand the best in x86 computing platforms.
ATLANTA (Friday, November 12, 1999) American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), an industry leader in supplying multiprocessor server motherboards and basic server solutions, today announced the release of the Megathon™, a next generation 500-700 MHz AMD Athlon™ motherboard.

"The high performance and state-of-the-art manageability features available with the Megathon™ make it ideal for Solutions Integrators whose customers demand only the best in x86 computing platforms," said Howard Johnston, Director of Channel Sales and Marketing at AMI. "The AMD Athlon motherboard's arrival to the server motherboard industry marks a significant event and we are confident that AMI's Megathon will bring new levels of performance to the industry."

The Megathon supports the AMD Athlon system bus with Front Side Bus (FSB) speeds at 200 MHz. Based around the advanced architecture of a chipset comprising the AMD-751™ system controller for the North Bridge and VIA Super South (686A) for the South Bridge, the Megathon benefits from industry-leading levels of stability.

The Megathon includes three DIMM sockets for up to 768 MB ECC SDRAM memory support and features auto-detect or selection clock ratio from BIOS, auto-detect or selection FSB frequencies from BIOS and support for UDMA 66 and AGP 2X mode. With 1 AGP, 5 PCI and 1 ISA, the Megathon is the perfect solution for Systems Integrators, VARs and OEMs. API, USB, APM 1.2, SMI, CD ROM boot, Flexboot, silentboot, floptical and zip drive are also supported by the Megathon.

The AMD Athlon processor is an x86-compatible, seventh-generation design. Featuring a super-pipelined, nine-issue superscalar microarchitecture optimized for high clock frequency, the processor is the industry's first fully pipelined, superscalar floating point unit for x86 platforms. The Athlon processor also offers high-performance cache technology, including 128 KB of on-chip level one (L1) cache and a programmable, high-performance backside L2 cache interface, as well as enhanced 3DNow!™ technology for optimum multimedia performance. The AMD Athlon system bus is a 200 MHz-based system interface based on the Alpha™ EV6 bus protocol with support for scalable multiprocessing.
