I thought GTE was very clever in trying to show technology could indeed open up cable access. When all said and done, the FCC will actually help the telcos in the long run, as open access will eventually foster more growth than the closed model (IMO). As far as line sharing is concerned, I don't like the FCC mandate here either because any time they have forced an open issue, they have trumped up a business case based on legal fiat instead of true market needs. Then one gets a sort of fiat market response, and then the consumer is really the loser. That also goes for the current unbundling rules, too.
