I would love to hire a guy who says he wants to sell because ...

When I got out of the Army Band, I had given up almost all hope of my dream held since junior high school to be an effective band director in our system of education. I had been to one of the ten best schools in the country and studied personally with one of the ten most renowned people in the field in pursuit of that dream. But the education system and the likelihood of meaningful employment in the field had dramatically worsened by the time it was possible for me to enter that job market.

Recognizing that, I made a decision not to settle for simply any employment in the field. Instead I made a decision to land a dream job or go into sales. My logic was that I would either enjoy music through pursuit of a profession in the field or I would enjoy the lucrative benefits of a sales career and be able to afford going to more concerts than most of my friends in the profession could possibly afford.

I went into sales to make money. Little did I know how enjoyable a sales career would be in addition to the financial rewards it offers.

I go to 30 to 50 concerts every year, depending on the year.
