I have experienced a little of what you describe.
My solution has been to open two instances of the browser, one with the real time quotes page, one with the trade page. This is a bit of a clumsy workaround, but it takes care of the problem. This is especially valuable
when you are trading select funds right near the hour.

Hey great minds think alike! That is what I do. But
it is still a pain. Going from quote page to trade is easy
but one at a time, involves "select account" hurdle and
differently painful...but that is another alternative.

What would really help would be a real time chart, maybe something that looked like quote.com's LiveCharts to make your decision about limit order prices!

Nice dream <G> But I would accept something a lot less
simple. Since they have the delayed quotes, available
it seems like a conscious design decision made by a product
designer who does not have to use his end product <GGG>.
Long time ago I was on Schwab and they used to have
real-time quotes on a quota, but did not make them painful
to use!
