Your observation about the market being irrational is irrelevant because it doesn't help. You and I agree -- we both think that the Palm IPO is not being factored into 3Com's price, and we are both betting that we are right.

I am simply not content to say I am right and the market is wrong because the market is irrational. There are other explanations; albeit, hopefully insufficient. I'd like to know those reasons.

Let me throw out a few possibilities:

1) Palm is regarded as a PDA/organizer; nothing magical, no IPO buzz words like "internet" apply -- therefore the growth rate will slow and the multiple to revenues will be, say 3.

2) 3Com without Palm has no current high growth products; therefore, 3Com's value without Palm is diminished by at least Palm's new value.

3) Technical factors (so many long term disillusioned 3Com holders) are selling into recent strength, restraining upward momentum

Btw, I characterized your argument in a less than favorable light because of how you chose to comment in post 36213. But as a lurker on this thread, I've appreciated your insights.
