I'm laughing reading about Oak Industries. I sat by two guys from there at lunch this week at the AEA conference. Afterwards I looked at the company stats and shrugged. In 1998 cable broadband represented 36% of sales and fiber optics 15%. And basically all I remember from the conversation was that they manufacture all the connectors for gas ranges in the United States. In other words, their products are inside my Wolf range.

Had I taken the time to read their chairman's letter to shareholders, I might have taken them more seriously:

oakind.com "Plans were also started to begin production of fiber-optic components at OCC."

Their subsidiary, Lasertron: oakind.com

This news may also push up Ortel, a lesser-known developer and manufacturer of fiber optics components.

Of course, the big question is, who's next????

Pat
