Cable modem: that is another can of worm. We have COMCAST in my area.
They have ATHOME and they lease the cable modem. I told them that I want to have my own cable modem. I shopped for RCA, MOTOROLA, COM21 and a few other offered online. The price is range from 299 to 369. But one has to be carefull: some cable modem does NOT even include the
RJ45 cable to link the modem to your ethernet card in your PC. The cable is ONLY $3 plus $7.00 shipment. Well you a a modem without cable so you now wait and pay for the cable from a supplier !!!! Motorola does not sell direct to consumer, one has to go thru the cable company ... RCA does NOT provide cable. COM21 makes you sign a form that you will register with your cable company after you buy their modem. I might have to take the rent option from Comcast.
