Gadzoox Networks First to Demonstrate Novell Directory Services for Storage Area Network Management
SAN Market Innovator Continues SAN Management and Open Standards Leadership Through Showcased Demonstration and Presentation at Novell's Partner
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1999-- Gadzoox® Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZOOX - news), a leading provider of SAN (storage area networking) products, announced today that the company has expanded its partnership with Novell to integrate Novell Directory Services® (NDS®) into Gadzoox' industry first modular SAN switch, Capellix(TM) 3000. Through this industry first milestone, Gadzoox underscores its commitment to leadership in SAN management and to the development and leveraging of open standards. The Gadzoox-Novell partnership activities at COMDEX/Fall '99 in Las Vegas include: the Capellix 3000 Modular SAN Switch, Novell's Directory Services®, NetWare® Cluster Services(TM) and a interactive presentation on storage area networking solutions in the Novell Partner Pavilion Theater.
''Gadzoox is delighted to be a featured solution partner in Novell's Partner Pavilion at Comdex'' said Dave Tang, Gadzoox vice president of marketing. ''Advanced manageability of enterprise SANs is essential to the continuous availability of data for mission-critical applications such as those found in e-business environments. By leveraging our collaborative efforts with Novell on NDS with the hardware and software extensibility of our Capellix Modular SAN Switch, Gadzoox is well positioned to rapidly deploy advanced management capabilities that address the needs of the market. As an industry leader, Gadzoox is once again proud to be at the forefront of a valuable advancement in SAN management architecture.''
The modular design of Gadzoox products, such as the Capellix 3000 switch, enables a high degree of extensibility and manageability through plug-in modules and embedded intelligent agents. By combining this architecture with the policy-rich service capabilities of NDS, users can map comprehensive business management practices to SAN management policies to administer robust security, configuration, asset, performance and fault management capabilities within an open standards framework. Unlike alternative approaches which are proprietary or provide a limited depth of capabilities, NDS-enabled SANs can reduce administrative costs, increase profits and create new business opportunities for ISVs and their customers.
''Novell is pleased with Gadzoox's efforts to provide SAN capabilities that will add value to our customers investments in NDS and NetWare,'' said Samm DiStasio, director of NDS marketing, Novell Inc. ''Gadzoox open architecture has made it possible to extend Novell's industry leading Novell Directory Services to SAN users.''
Industry Standards Support
Gadzoox as an active member of the Distributed Management Task Force (DMTF), Gadzoox and Novell will collaborate to develop solutions based on the Common Information Model (CIM) and Directory-Enabled Networks (DEN) specifications in order to expedite the acceptance and implementation of these open standards throughout the industry. The two companies demonstrate their commitment to industry standards by using the industry standard lightweight directory access protocol (LDAP) for interfacing Novell Directory Services with Gadzoox products. Gadzoox is building on a standards-based directory schema, helping to define the data model for directory-enabled SAN products. Gadzoox and Novell will jointly work together on extending the directory schema by adding support for SAN switch and hub objects, allowing network administrators to modify and customize a SAN's object properties and attributes.

The breakthrough demonstration features the Gadzoox Capellix 3000 modular SAN switch which has been NDS-enabled to serve as a platform for directory-based hardware management using NDS and Novell's ConsoleOne Java management product. The demonstrations of NDS and NetWare Cluster Services along with the SAN presentation in the Novell theatre will take place at the Novell Partner Pavilion located at booth number 3107, in the Las Vegas Convention Center from November 15-19.
