re:"Sabre mobo"

Well, Compaq thought it sucked then and apparently they think it sucks now.

So since your response is typical, I'll end this discussion by saying:

I guess it all depends on your definition of "sucks".

Ten - Re: "the Sabre chipset still needs tweaking and performance is not as good as it should be for eight-way SMP server performance." Seems like quite a jump from "not as good" to "sucks.""

The YUK Register must have used Compaq's information - because DELL's comments - from their recent quarterly report last Tuesday stated:

"Eight-Way Server Product Pushes Enterprise Growth

Combined quarterly revenue from Dell workstations, servers and storage products accounted for 17 percent of net revenue, a new high. Within the worldwide server business, the company added more than one-third to its year-ago market share, passing IBM to reach the No. 2 position and accounting for more than 15 percent of industry volume.

Shipments of the PowerEdge 8450, the company's most powerful server to date, began in September and helped sustain strong momentum in the enterprise-product category. The eight-processor product was developed to handle data-center applications including Internet commerce, Web hosting and applications, messaging and enterprise-resources planning.
