How would AMD's survival be affected if Intel lowered its selling price on its fastest CPU to $50? Sure, Intel would lose money at that point, but this discussion is about AMD's survival being in Intel's hands. Intel would survive the scenario, AMD wouldn't. The Feds would be on Intel in a flash, however.
If AMD flounders on its own, Intel would be in the unenviable position of looking a lot like Microsoft to those same Feds. Ergo, it is in Intel's interest to see that AMD survives. That is Steve's point, and he is correct.
