Ron, re: <So, does the board view Transmeta as an also-ran-long-shot, a too-early-to-tell development, or a potential serious threat to AMD's and INTC's future? >

My take on this is that the entry of barrier to the X86 capable CPU market has gone up many times higher from the time Transmeta was started. When Transmeta was started, IDT and Cyrix were still viable. It's not going to have any effect on Intel or AMD in the very near future( next 18 months) because of the time it takes to bring a CPU with a new architecure/concept into market. Just my 2 Cents.

Goutama

About Transmeta..."will design microprocessors for new handheld platforms."

From the Red Herring:

"I'm speaking specifically of Transmeta, which is, according to Jason Pontin, editor of the print version of Red Herring, "the most important company in Silicon Valley."
