news: NBase-Xyplex to Use Mapletree Networks Uniporte Voice and Data Architecture in Red-C Solution

WESTWOOD, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 1999--

Win for Mapletree is further validation of its embedded UniPorte

Architecture and OEM business model as a driver for rapid OEM

deployment of voice & data network access products

Mapletree Networks Inc., specialists in high-density embedded data and voice access communications products, today announced another significant customer win. NBase-Xyplex, a leading provider of "intelligent" high-speed networking products and services for carriers (OSS) will use Mapletree's UniPorte Architecture(TM) in the Red-C Open Subscriber System. The Red-C OSS will use the UniPorte Architecture for large port densities, data access, VoIP/FoIP functionality, and in the future, VoDSL services.

"NBase-Xyplex has always embraced a policy of seeking out partnerships with technological leaders who can leverage their strengths with our industry leading networking products," said Philippe Szwarc, NBase-Xyplex general manager. "Mapletree Networks is clearly such a leader. UniPorte Architecture is a nimble architecture that weaves together strong data and voice capabilities which greatly complements the Red-C's ability as a "value-added applications enabler" for VoIP and VoDSL services."

"This latest customer win further reflects the growing appetite for incorporating 'intelligent VoIP and Data capabilities' into remote access network solutions that can be developed, built and managed cost-effectively," said Lewis Bergins, Mapletree Networks president and CEO. "Universal access is a competitive priority for OEMs to efficiently integrate today's applications into next-generation networks, then upgrade easily when value-added new services emerge."

About Mapletree's UniPorte Architecture (patent pending)

Mapletree's UniPorte Architecture is a voice and data network access subsystem for partners and OEMs that features a proprietary soft architecture that is built on high-performance processors, DSPs and ASICs. Combining the highest port density and functionality with the lowest power consumption in the industry, Mapletree's UniPorte Architecture enables partners to integrate unprecedented universal port densities into their products. For partners and OEMs, the ability to integrate a low-power, high-density universal port subsystem into their network access equipment means that their customers - telcos, carriers, large enterprises and service providers - have the flexibility to offer more services in a single box at a lower cost. Mapletree's subsystem approach to network access also means that the benefits of their technologies can be made available in end-user products with minimal development effort and very short time to market.

Wow. That is a deflator. I'm not happy to hear that.

MRVC exploding to the upside now. $28 1/2.

Hi Pat Mudge,

I am delighted to see you post on the MRVC board and thrilled to find that you are a stockholder.

I have followed your posts from time to time but was a regular lurker on the Amati Communications board back when you were "leader of the pack" there. You helped me and my family make a few bucks in that stock, and educated us all about DSL (I now have it through USWest and love it).

The heartiest welcome here, and do come post with your insights often.

BP

Good to see you contributing on the MRVC thread. Your posts on Newbridge have always been thoughtful and informative.

How is it that you are an investor in Ironbridge? Is this through your holdings in Newbridge?

Here's a concept for people to think about: I've always felt that NN and MRVC would make a good merger. NN is being criticized for being too narrowly focused and MRVC is criticized for being too widely spread out in product segments. MRVC would provide NN additional affiliates in high growth areas and a stronger LAN offering. Spinning off affiliations that duplicate efforts should pay for the merger itself. I doubt it will happen but I like the idea.
