"Simple arithmetic suggests that PCs and servers will still be the largest drivers of the DD market for the near future."

Stitch,

I located some additional information since posting some of the DD projections last weekend. Some analysts are estimating that only 1/10 of the projected numbers will be used in storage servers with multiple disks. I am guessing that is on the low side, but it is in direct agreement with your observation.

Stitch and all,
I think you gotta read this story , especially given some of what you have shared with us about your background in the industry. On Lerach and Shugart, a tale of fishing and and making HDs:
sfgate.com

Can anyone with longer and more intimate experience in the drive sector than I have give the other side of this fish tale, if there is one?

Gary,
Needless to say I will be interested in your review of the symposium whenever you have that completed. Also, should you have a few spare minutes in your travels, I would be interested in talking with you further before you head back to Asia. You could either let me know when and where to contact you or it might be easier if you were to give me a quick call so I can ring you back on my nickel.
Congratulations again on Seagate!!! Jeff 561-697-9117

Stitch,
<<``The PC isn't dead. I think the discussion of whether the PC is dead, is dead. The PC will be with us a long time">>

Well, my usual "yada, yada" plus this (I'm in the Ellison, McNealy camp)-- yahoo.cnet.com

Death to the PC! <vbg>

Stitch,
Old Disk Doggies never die and disappear, they just build bigger systems. No, we're not talking about Mr. Conner here (where is he, anyway? LT, you always seemed to know what he was doing). Micropolis rises from the grave. From the FC thread: Message 11980643
