Don, I reached two different conclusions after reading your disappointing post. My first reaction was NOT AGAIN!!! I simply could not believe my eyes. Then, my second reaction was, OH YES I CAN. What else can we expect from the once great lumbering giant, GM, who has steadily been slipping from their historic market share highs of fifty percent of the market down to 29% and dropping. Ford is really nipping at their heels and have all but caught up with them. Ford is on the verge of surpassing GM very shortly. The worst part of this scenario is that GM is simply not even trying to fight back, but simply accepting their defeat. And is it any wonder. I do not believe it is simply a matter of opinion on this subject, but based upon widely published facts. What a shame. If they only realized how this makes them look in the eyes of the world. GM continues to boast how committed to advanced technology they are, in every sense of the word, in various articles published in the Automotive News. I don't see how they can make those statements other than out of habit. I would have thought by now that Automotive News would finally conclude the gross misrepresentations being made by GM and do something about it. Unfortunately we no longer have the Big 3. We are now down to two auto mfgr's in this country and losing ground in world wide markets, thanks to GM. So, Automotive News has to deal with GM very gingerly for fear of losing their support. Unfortunately it does not have to be this way. If GM truly wanted to make advances in technology there is no one holding them back except Smith himself. He has had more than ample time and the money to bring this about. So, it's not just a problem with EV's and/or HEV's, but GM's entire line of outdated products, starting with Cadillac, that is in very serious trouble and on down the line. Again, as someone posted earlier, "a rising tide raises all ships", and GM has been the undeserving beneficiary of nine years of an expanding market. Does anyone want to venture a guess where GM will be when the tides goes out as it surely will? Unfortunately, it hurts us all. I have been pulling for GM from way back, when they became our JV partner, thinking erroneously that perhaps they have seen the error of their ways and have at long last decided to do something about it. It now looks like I may have been a victim of wishful thinking. It hurts to see our once dominant auto industry being taken over by the more formidable foreign competition. Don, I only hope that you, at long last, do indeed receive your NiMH batteries. If ever anyone deserves them it is you. We are all pulling for you and hope to hear the potential good news momentarily, so that we can all join in your thrill. Yet, I have to admit, I was disappointed by your sole comment regarding the "lucky 7" who have already received their Gen2s, that "no one has complained". Was that it? Is that all anyone had to say? I was certainly hoping for a little more than that at long last. Regards.
